Christians can be confident in a discussion on the nature and use of science, precisely because only the Christian worldview can provide the necessary preconditions for the intelligibility of scientific inquiry.
Science requires a significant number of philosophical assumptions just to conduct empirical investigation.

What are those borrowed elements?
What are some of the most important presuppositions without which scientific investigation should prove impossible?
A brief list of such presuppositions includes:
1. The uniformity of nature
2. Induction
3. Ontological/epistemological realism
4. Mathematical realism
5. Methodological, epistemic, and ethical values
6. The reliability of the human mind and sensory faculties
7. Ontological/conceptual categories
8. The usefulness/adequacy of human language to describe nature
9. The existence of singularities, ultimate boundary conditions, and brute givens

Adele sau Lady Gaga?

Premiile Grammy au fost acordate.
Am publicat şi câştigătorii la categoriile Gospel/Contemporary Christian.
Kirk Franklin, Laura Story şi Chris Tomlin erau şi favoriţii mei.
Dar privind la mainstream, nu mă pot abţine să nu îmi exprim satisfacţia pentru faptul că cineva poate câştiga făcând doar muzică bună.
Adele a câştigat la toate cele şase categorii la care a fost nominalizată.
Lady Gaga a plecat acasă fără nici un trofeu.
Cred că sunt perioade când oamenii obosesc de prea multe excentricităţi, atât în mesaj, cât şi în forma de exprimare.
Adele face muzică bună, cu mesaje calde, fără artificii.
Chiar dacă comparaţia pare deplasată, e o lecţie şi pentru oratorii creştini:
conţinutul e important, circul nu.

Aparenţele înşeală – Prima impresie contează

Prima impresie contează!
Poate că aşa este.
Dar poţi să rămâi la prima impresie şi să emiţi o judecată pe baza acesteia?
Câte judecăţi de valoare nu păcătuiesc tocmai prin faptul că se bazează pe prime impresii?
L-am citit din prima! E ca un titlu de glorie, ca şi când el sau ea ar avea aptitudini de fin psiholog.
Şi ce-i rău în asta?
În primul rând e rău că nedreptăţeşti pe cineva.
Apoi te expui dezamăgirii sau ruşinii de a fi emis o judecată total greşită.
Şi mai rău e că îţi formezi un mod de a evalua şi a emite o judecată sub imboldul primei impresii.
Şi asta e superficialitate.

E cunoscută imaginea următoare.

Sunt interesante concluziile unui test realizat pe două grupe de subiecţi cărora li s-a arătat această imagine.
Cei cărora li s-a spus că vor vedea o femeie bătrână asta au văzut şi nu reuşeau nicicum s-o vadă şi pe cea tânără.
Iar cei ce au ştiut că vor privi o imagine ce reprezintă o femeie tânără au văzut-o, dar nu reuşeau s-o vadă şi pe cea în vârstă.
